I've been trying to trace Elizabeth Hewitt nee Johnson to see if there are any further links, and I think I may have found her birth. If I'm correct, then she is possibly Emma's cousin rather than...
The bankruptcy doesnt look like its George.
Morning Post 22 October 1873:
Charles Gustavus Adolphus Wegscherder and Harry Alworth Fellowes Merewether, Little Tower Street, City, Colonial...
Looks like he then headed to New Zealand, where he was Drawing Master at Nelson College:
Re John Francis Merewether.
I haven't read back everything, so apologies if this is already known, but there is a reference to JFM in the Freeman's Journal (Sydney, NSW) 16 Apr 1862:
WR stands for Waterways and Railways
Actually I didn't realise that FmP and Ancestry have two different documents. Ancestry says she was to be employed by Mrs Pleasance, Gore Street, Collingwood.
Oh, and the Ancestry documents are...
Correction - it departed 12 Jun 1860 & arrived 29 Sep 1860
A possible - there is a Helen Perie arriving Melbourne 12 Jun 1860 aboard the Wanata from Liverpool. She is said to be 20, Scottish, and a servant. The passenger list is headed Assisted Passengers.
Shame there wasn't a bit more information about Robert Perrie.
Ancestry has a Canadian 'British Regimental Register' record dated 10 Oct 1825 of a Robert Perrie born c1808 High Church, Renfrew...
The 1856 record is not a census, its a poor law/workhouse record which you should be able to purchase from Renfrewshire Heritage Services using the reference numbers quoted. Hopefully this may give...
Going back to the 1851 census in Scotland where Ellen and Jane are with their uncle, I think that this may be his baptism:
27 Oct 1811 (born 13 Sep 1811) Abbey, Paisley, Renfrewshire
This looks interesting!
From FindmyPast, Scotland, Poor Law & Poor Lists
1856, Paisley, Series 11 Statement 8288
Helen Perrie aged 14 (1842) born Malta, Residence: Helensburgh
I'm finding the style of the OP’s postings rather difficult to follow so cant quite work out what’s known and what isn’t, but the OP's tree on Ancestry shows that 5 children were baptised 21 Dec 1886...
From Robert Perrie's discharge document, he served in the following countries:
West Indies - 4 months
North America - 2 Yrs 4 months
Mediterranean, Turkey & Crimea - 2 yrs 4 months
Attested basically means signed up. The regimental board review his service and conduct, and approve his pension.
According to the website jamaicanfamilysearch, the 29th were in Jamaica in 1871...
I suspect that the daughter was simply acting with the written authority of her mother, ie acting with power of attorney rather than being a legally qualified person. Attorney isnt a term used in...
Just realised that you said you had no DoB for him. His army papers say he was born Wigan, Lancaster (Lancashire)c1831, but he is on the 1861 census at the invalid depot as aged 25 (c1836)- RG9...
Robert Pirrie transferred from the 77th to the 29th Regiment Of Foot on 1 June 1861. His service No. is recorded as 901 and his discharge papers are on FindmyPast if you have access.
There is also a baptism in Antrim in 1845 of a William John Anderson with the parents John Anderson & Ellen Lockhart. This matches with the William J Anderson in the 1851 census.
I havent stumbled across Samuel yet, but there is an interesting Catholic baptism in 1848 on Scotlands People:
Name: ANDERSON, JANE
Parents: JOHN ANDERSON & ELLES LOCKHART
WYLIE, (female) mmn TATTERSALE GRO Reference: 1846 D Quarter in WEST DERBY Volume 20 Page 1056
I think the mmn should be Tattersall and that her parents were Edward Earl Wylie and Hannah Maria...
Yes, that was my thought process, I think these may be two further daughters, although in the 1851 census Ellen is Mary Ellen.
HEWITT, ELIZABETH mmn JOHNSON GRO Reference: 1846 J Quarter in...
I see that the witnesses are John & Elizabeth Hewitt, so I wonder if this is the same couple:
