This was from Peter's service record on Find My Past.

Son Peter puts his (half) brothers John and Robert as next of kin in 1897, so father Peter was probably not around then.

Unless your Edward died 1838 and has dob of 1765 not 1775.
I have had a look and so far can't see any Nye baptisms in Dover around that time.
Also the Edward b1800 may have died in infancy.

Is the Edward Nye who died in 1938 yours? If so he has a possible dob of 1765.
