Is there a trace of Thomas Bachelor, wife Catherine (Kitty) Woods in the 1841 census? He was baptized in Warmington in 1793 (IGI). The Warmington Parish registers record a death of a Thomas Bachelor 18/9/1839. The corresponding death certificate doesn't tally for age (44) and occupation (labourer) He was in fact a shoemaker (son John's baptism 2/1/1830) and would have been 46 in 1839. Freebmd doesn't have this record but gives one in September 1845 Banbury 16 13.

Thank you Lynda. That looks conclusive as regards the prior death of Thomas. I still have a lingering doubt that the one who died in 1839 was 'my' Thomas - but I've found no other in Warmington between 1829 (birth of son John) and the 1841 census.

Hi Ian

Just out of interest, there's a shoemaker, John Cambray 25, living next door but one to Catherine. I've had a little look for Thomas Bachelors elsewhere in Warwickshire. I couldn't find a better one I'm afraid :([see below]

Hello Lynda. Thanks for the research. I think I'll have to content myself with the one I've got and consider that the age on the death certificate is erroneous (or the IGI baptism date) and that he may have given up shoemaking. He died of cancer at 46 (or 44) which may be part of the explanation. Not very satisfying but as there are no other candidates in Warmington and the date of his death shortly precedes the 1841 census where Catherine is a widow it's quite plausible.
Best wishes,
Ian

Hello Ian

As you say, not very satisfying. I hate it when that happens :(
Oh well?
