gage body or barrett

i have been asked by a friend to help her, i have been given a copy of a birth cert dated 1926, mothers surname and maiden name are wrote down as clara gage late body formerly barrett, can some one help me to understand this please, thanks

Clara was born Clara Barrett, married a Mr Body (who presumably died), then married a Mr Gage (presumably the father of the child).

Clara may well have been born after the 1901 census. If you have not already got her marriage certificate to Mr Gage, I suggest you get that next. It should give her age & father's name & occupation. Unfortunately freeBMD only goes up to about 1910 at the moment, so you will need to look at the GRO index, either at a library or online. I haven't used it myself, but www.familyrelatives.org is fully searchable on names from 1866 to 1920.

My father, George Gage, was born in 1920 and on his birth certificate the mother is listed as Clara Gage late Body formerly Barrett. Who are you talking about?

on FreeBMD there is a marriage Dec 1919 West Ham vol 4A page 35 for Ernest E GAGE, spouse BODY. Unfortunately the bride is missing from the transcription.
Found her( and also a missing groom) transcribed as above except for the page number being 36 not 35.
