Tanner family of Stow Maries

My 3x great grandmother, Catherine Gardiner Tanner was born about 1804 apparently in Stow Maries but I can find no record of her birth. I have her marriage certificate from 1840 when she married Thomas How in Thanet in Kent (having previously been married to his brother Richard) and that names her father as William Tanner, a farmer. I can find no record of him in Stow Maries either. If anyone has any information or any ideas where the Gardiner/Gardener/Gardner connection came from I would be very grateful.

I have several Tanners, children of William (farmer) from that period. There's Mary who married Willis or Wills. There's William (licensed victualler), Hannah (my gt gt grandmother, born Stow Maries, married William Wood) and Jonathan (born nearby at Purleigh, licensed victualler, married Sarah Pond.) What other info do you have?
