have found an ancestor in 1st dragoons 1899-1902 in south africa, is it possible he could then be in the royal rifle corp in WW1,I am totally clueless as to whether soldiers could swap units or did they always stay in the same one?
thank you

It is possible for that to have happened. There are a number of possible scenarios: that he had completed his first term of service before WW1 and volunteered for the KRRC in WW1, or depending upon his age, he was conscripted in 1916 or sometime afterwards.

If you would like to post his name and any service details you have it may be possible to narrow it down a bit.

hello terry
ERNEST A WORWOOD, a private in the dragoon, i know he received queens s.a. medal 1899-1902, he was born in shoreditch area 1878.
I think he might also be the worwood R/19117 listed on cwgc as a rifleman in the kings royal rifle corps who was buried at Abbeville 1916.
thank you chloe
