Trying to trace the Kershaw Family originally from Westmorland. Henry Kershaw from Long Marton married Maria Ridley from Askham and James Kershaw was born in 1841 also in Askham. He married Jane Surgeon in 1871 and moved to Gateshead in 1878 and started Kershaw Mineral Water Business. His sons - John James Kershaw, Wilfred Gladstone Kershaw, William Surgeon Kershaw and Walter Ridley Kershaw - were all involved in the business after James death in 1901. Most of the known history is around Gateshead.
Henry Kershaw moved from Askham to Barrow in Furness and had other children: Tamar Kershaw, Mary Kershaw, John Kershaw (married Margaret Bell 1878, many children: Henry Kershaw, Tamar Kershaw, Robert Kershaw, Alan Gordon Kershaw, Gertrude Mary Kershaw, John Kershaw, Stanley Kershaw, Joseph Kershaw and Thomas Kershaw), Maria Kershaw (married Charles Brindley), Jonathan, Henry Kershaw and Sarah Anne (married Thomas Allen, one daughter, Mercedes). As far as we know their descendents are still in Barrow and we would love to hear any information about them or their families.

Welcome aboard. I think that you will find this site to be both pleasant and very helpful. Don't forget to post your thread on 'Westmorland' as well. {Top of page, 'B-G Forums', then 'Place Forums'}. Enjoy the site.:)

Does your Kershaw line have any connections to Little Lever, manchester pre-1834? We have Ann Kershaw born there about 1834. Her father's name was Edmund, a labourer rather unhelpfully! Ann married Isaac Holland in 1857 in Stand Presbyterian chapel.
