No mention in Cassells 1899 gazetteer or in the Topographical Dictionary of England 1831.

There are a couple of towns called Harby but not in Staffordshire.

Hello AWO.....

Was he a Silver Flute Maker, and married to a Jane?

If so, there is an Isaac Rose born Staffordshire/Harborne aged either 31 or 37 living at 21 Court 1 House, Tennant Street, St Thomas, Birmingham on the 1851 census. HO107/2052, Folio 8, Page 47, Schedule 202.

I checked on Parloc and there doesn't appear to be a Little Harby in Staffs, but there is a Harborne which led me to find the census entry for the above.

If you think it is your man, let me know here, and if you don't have access to the 1851 yourself, I will post the rest of the details for you (which include 6 children).

Best wishes

Brenda

We still need to locate Charles Rose on 1871. This will be easier than his sister Ann if she has now married.

I have to go out now. I will continue later, we can obviously go up to 1901. If anyone else has some time today perhaps they can continue for Val.

Best wishes

Couldn't find Ann M Rose - can only presume that she must have changed to a married surname by 1871.

Again can't see anything for Ellen/Eliza on the 1881. Probably married.

I did look on the 1861 and 1871 for Sarah Quirk - there is more than one in Sheffield (one born Sheffield 1852, one born Lancs 1855, one born Leeds, 1860) and so I wasn't really in a position to guess which was the correct one.

I'm out of time again, so I must leave it there for tonight.

If you need 1891 and 1901 details, please post here again and let me know.
If you have any other info on the other girls who'd left home such as husband's/children's names that might help to find them. Same as for Sarah Quirk - her siblings names would be useful.

Best wishes

Hi Brenda ,

1855 , keep coming up with 1850-3 , married Walter 1875 Sheffeild.

Isaac Rose married my ancestor Jane Oldham at Aston Juxta 06 Nov 1836. I discovered this fact through an announcement in the Birmingham Journal, Sat 12 Nov 1836: She was a straw bonnet maker living in Tennant Street, Birmingham; to Isaac Rose of Bishopsgate Street, Birmingham.

At the baptism of their son Frederick 01 Oct 1840 the family is living in Tennant Street, Isaac described as silver plater.

The 1841 Census finds them still at Tennant Street, near Mary's family nearby, her father being John Seeley Oldham, gardener. Isaac described as 'Plater S'.

I am interested to learn that Isaac was poached from Birmingham to Sheffield and am keen to discover more about it and the early technique of electro-plating. I hope this new information might draw responses from the original contributors to this thread.
