Hi Jo
No Surname or Street index that I know of. There is an area index and small hamlets/villages are usually easily found. Let me know what you're looking for and I may be able to help.

Hi, thank you for your offer to help. It was a general question really as I have been trawling through them looking in Bishop Wearmouth. Has taken me ages!
Best wishes,
Jo

Yes, I know what you mean - but isn't it nice that we can trawl in the comfort of our own homes?!!

Certainly is especially when you can't get out yourself.

Hi Jo

NDFHS have a number of indexes for 1861 - visit their site and look under publications.

Hi,
Durhamrecordsonline are very good and I have used them. Thanks

Hi Jan,
I have never looked on NDFHS before, thanks for saying. Just had a look and I could get a nice little list for possible Christmas pressies from there! :)

Jo :)
