Royal West Kents helmet flash

I'm trying to find an illustration of the helmet flash that was worn by the Royal West Kents in the Boer War. I believe it was red in colour, and worn on the left side of the helmet, but I can't find a detailed description or illustration of it.

Hubby has loads of Boer War books, and I've looked through every one of them, but without success.

Can anyone help?
