While I spent much words etc describing the reason for it, the request for a look up in 1851 census of the family of Francis Grady was rather burried in detail. I am really puzzled by the apparent second marriage to the first wifes sister. I am hoping madly the cenus shows Francis's wife as Catherine Sarah, and not Mary Ann.
Strangely eneough I discovered another incidence, where second wife was sister of the first during some research in the Eastern Cape of the old British Cape Colony of South Africa in period 1870-1880.
Kind regards
and TIA

Not much help on the LDS 1851 census of Birmingham I'm afraid. Francis was already a widower:

PRO Reference: HO/107/2058, folio 195, page 36

Francis GRADY Head W 37 Portrait Painter Birmingham
Francis GRADY Son 10 Scholar Birmingham
Charles GRADY Son 9 Scholar Birmingham

There is a death registered in the March qtr of 1842 in Birmingham for a Catherine Sarah GRADY via Free BMD - perhaps she died as a result of the birth of Charles?? No marriage to a Mary Ann that I could find but Free BMD is not complete of course.

Janet.

Thank you Jan. Yes, From FreeBMD it seems that the first wife Catherine Sarah had possibly died as result of the birth of Charles Shaw GRADY, also born March quarter 1842. if there was a 1841 census of area concerned, maybe this should show up with Catherine Sarah plus Francis Frederic then aged 6 months? Thanks again.

Thanks for information. I am surprised at spelling of "Kathrin", sound if Irish influence is strong
