Have you tried the earlier trade directories? The census data has indicated William's birthplace, and grocers weren't as mobile as many other occupations... the surnames is not as common as some!

No idea, maybe for Work as it looks like they went back and forth

Marriage in Cardiff 4 Aug 1858
They both signed names and wittiness where John Morris signed his name and Susan Lloyd made her mark.

Children Born to William and Rosa
Maria 1860 Cardiff
John 1861 Cardiff possible Death 1861 London
William 1863 Cardiff
Ernest 1865 Caardiff
Sidney Wallace 1867 Hammersmith, London
Lillian/Lilas 1870 Fulham, London
Arthur 1873 Cardiff
Gertrude 1876 Cardiff

1891 William is living with Daughter Gertrude and her husband John Francis Elementary Schoolmaster

I just can not get past his father John Staniforth Grocer from the Birth Cert.
May be it's a fake name and Occupation if he didn't know his parents names.

There appears to be two William Staniforth's!!
One born 1834 Chelsea with Richard Down in 1841 (transcribed as Hansford).Something is written for occupation but has been crossed out.
One born 1837 Mile End with John, victualler, in 1841.
From freebmd Un named female STAINFORTH JFM 1840 Stepney, vol 2 page 465,mmn Cook. This matches with 1841 census found by Geneius,by 1851 she is Martha.

Something is written for occupation but has been crossed out.

It said 'nurse child' which may mean that he had been with the family since infancy but the enumerator has determined that it was no longer appropriate to identify him as such when he was 7 years old. It is also possible that the term just meant he was an unrelated child they were caring for, I am not sure when 'foster child' became common on census returns.

In actual fact it is just crossed out because it isn't a trade or profession. Words like 'visitor' are also crossed out.

I just can not get past his father John Staniforth Grocer from the Birth Cert.
May be it's a fake name and Occupation if he didn't know his parents names.

If he had been with this family for awhile then yes, it is quite possible that he didn't know who his father was.

Bear in mind that victualler and grocer have almost identical meanings.
