If anyone has ever explored the family background of the 'Smith of Smiths' as Macaulay (Lord) called him, please let me know.

Sydney Smith said of his grandfather that "he disappeared at the time of the Assize, and we saw no more of him", which just about sums up all that I have been able to discover. (Sydney, apart from his acknowledged and distinguished full brothers and sisters, did have a half sibling, fathered by his father when well on into his 60's by "the maid").

Please, some, any, information.

Hi, I have Lord Macaulay in my family tree I wonder if Rev Sidney Smith is related to James, Henry or Archibold Smith that are also in my Family tree

I believe not. They first met when Smith was a rector up in Yorkshire and Macauley a young barrister on the make at York Assizes. They maintained contact over many years, Macauley coming to breakfasts given by Smith.

If they had a family connection I am sure it would have been mentioned by one or other of them, or by Sabba Holland, nee Smith, in her biography.
