Hi, i do not want to just assume this because it is what i am hoping for and i have searched the web to no avail but does the Letter "D" in the marital Status column denote Divorced

No need to search the web!

If the marital status is "D", the Findmypast transcription of the record should show the marital status as "Divorced"

Thanks for confirming that, i found the D on the actual scan of the document but FMP had put nothing in the transcription and as it was the first time i had come across it i wanted to make sure, in this case i had found this person with his first wife up to and including the 1938 Electoral register but discovered him remarrying in 1940. so when i found the 1939 this morning and he had a D next to him i hoped it meant Divorced, also the person he married in 1940 was also in the same house with her widowed mother and was an employee at his firm her husband being in the Royal Artilliary at the time.

MP had put nothing in the transcription

On FMP, you have to click the bird's beak to get the full transcription.
