Hi folks

A friend has asked me if I know how to get into Irish BMDs
as she's trying to find her grandfather Robert Copeland's birth certificate
and death certificate. He was born in Queens County

Robert joined the Royal Irish Constabulatory at the age of 19 in 1868,
his father John was also a constable in 1854.

Regards

Tom

try this website
https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/civil-search.jsp

This is run by the Irish government and as far as I have found is free............... I know but nowhere does it ask me for money

Irish BMDs mainly begin in 1864, so you'll need to look for a baptism for Robert, not a birth.

Neither Irish genealogy nor geography is my strongest point, so I would suggest that you look at some of the 'stickies' at the top of this Irish forum.

Royal Irish Constabulary service records are held at NAS, Kew, PRONI in Belfast NAS Dublin and on Ancestry. In addition if you can’t access any of those the police museum in Belfast will send you a copy for £25.
