Hi, Can anyone tell me, or have a guess, where my Barnes Boote was born near?
I guessed India but "born near India" doesn't make sense.
If it wasn't India I had two theories. as of 1751 I have him in London and had hoped that the name was somewhere in London. Or else in 1751 he married and his occupation was given as being in the 1st Regiment of Foot. From what I have read this seems to have been a Scotish Regiment so perhaps he was born up north ?
Does anyone have an idea what that word in the margin after his entry could mean?
the "at" in rheumatic seems to be identical to the that in the town name. I also think that the ending looks like "ter" at the end so at the moment I'm left with F..ater"
Any help on this would be much appreciated.
I have enclosed the original (JPG). Barnes Boot is the penultimate entry of the first block.
I can read:
Barnes Boote, Age 45, 23 years of Service, Rheumatic, Born near ??? Lab

Thanks in advance

Jack

Hi Jack,

Welcome to British-Genealogy. :smile5:

Unfortunately the document is too small to read. Is there is a chance you could put it in something such as Photobucket so we can enlarge it?

Some India Office records are available on FindMyPast. Have you checked there? Though FIBIS (Families in British India Society) don't seem to have any records for Barnes in their database. http://www.

This site has a limit on upload size. It's OK for photos but not really for documents.

May I suggest you post the original downloaded image (not a screen capture) on some suitable photo sharing web site and tell us the URL. Google Drive would do.

Hi Pam,
Many thanks for the information.
I have never used photobucket but have just signed on, downloaded the file and they have given me the following link. Apparently you can access the document via the link - I hope so anyway.

I did have a look at the FIBIS site but most of the Information seems to be later than the period I am interested in (1720 - 1777) I did a search but couldn't find Barnes Boote there, but thanks anyway

For some reason the link got corrupted.

Unfortunately, I can only get it to enlarge once, and even then I can't read it. Is it because it's a screen capture as opposed to the original document as per Peter's suggestion?

I have corrected the link. If you click the download button you can then enlarge the photo, although it is still not the clearest. I'll go and have a closer look now.

I wondered whether the word in the right hand margin was 'Infirmary'

That image appears to be only 791 x 1024px. If that's the downloaded file, I'd ask for your money back. My downloaded Ancestry images are much much larger than this.

hi Folks,
I have taken Peter's advice and loaded them intom googledrive. I did try photobucket but the linkage didn't seem to work, I hope this one does..

@ Sue, I believe that this word is referred reserves
@ Peter, I agree that the ancestry Downloads are of better Quality but this one is not directly from ancestry but from "Fold 3". it did not cost me anything as i took the free trail and then cancelled again as Fold 3 seems to have mainly Military data and it was of no further use to me

Sorry but even enlarging it I can only read 'near', the rest is just not clear enough.
