Hello
I know you have posted this query in the Hampshire and Isle of Wight forum but after doing a search on ancestry I saw a tree(s) which has Thomas O'Connor and Johanna Bowen born in Ireland and their deaths in Hamilton Canada. Then I found this Canada 1871 census The spelling is how it is written on the original image
Hamilton Ontario
Thomas O'Coner 34 labourer born Ireland
Hannah O'Coner 34 Ireland
Patrick O'Coner 13 England
Mary Ann O'Coner 6 England
Thomas O'Coner 4 England
Elizabeth O'Coner 3 England
Edward O'Coner 6/12 England
If this is your family then they had been in Canada for less than 6 months when the census was taken.

Same family in 1881 in Hamilton Ontario. The surname is as written on the image which has Thomas and Hannah's ages as 42 then crossed out and 44 written. Patrick's age was written as 30 and crossed out the 26 written. So either the parents didn't recollect the children's ages correctly or the enumerator had trouble dealing with the Irish accent.
Thomas Connors 44
Hannah Connors 44
Patrick Connors 26
Mary Ann Connors 15
Thomas 13
Elizabeth 8
Edward 7

Shipping record for this family was 1869 so Edward was not born England
Canadian Passenger Lists, 1865-1935
Arrived May 1869 from Portsmouth on the ship Serapis
Thomas Connor 30
Hannah Connor 32
Patrick Connor 14
Mary Ann 5
Thomas 3
Elizabeth (Infant?)

The U.S. and Canada, Passenger and Immigration Lists Index, 1500s-1900s has an immigration record for Thomas. However the information is compiled from the Bruce S. Elliott - Index to the 1871 Census of Ontario: York. Toronto: Ontario Genealogical Society, (1992). 154p 1871 and because Edward was said to have been born in England on that census it has been assumed (as I did) that they had arrived sometime after Edward's birth.
Thomas O'Connor
Arrival Year 1871
at Ontario, Canada
Age 34 born about 1837

Just noticed you had also posted this query in the Hampshire forum also. I have deleted it because duplicate posts are not allowed as they cause confusion and frustration when members are searching for records that have already been found and posted elsewhere.

Just a thought - why do you think the children were born in Hampshire? The shipping record says the family sailed from Portsmouth not that it was where they were born/living.
