Hi. I'm new to the site and am hoping that someone may be able to help me. I would like to track down my grandparents' marriage certificate. The information I have is as follows:
Grandfather:
Bjorn Graae
DOB:20th of January 1906
Nationality: Danish

Grandmother:
Daphne Sander (nee Vischer)
DOB: 15th of September 1923
Nationality: Dutch

I know that they lived near kilosa in what was then Tanganika and I am guessing that they were married at some point in the 1950s (probably between 1952 and 1958).

If anyone is able to assist me in tracking this down/pointing me in the right direction i would be most grateful.

Thank you. I was aware of this marriage. George Sander was Dutch and this is how she became a Dutch national. It is the subsequent marriage that is proving more difficult to trace. Thanks so much for your help and time though.

Hi. Unfortunately my grandmother, Daphne, died earlier this year, and was living in Scotland. I have looked through her papers but there is no marriage certificate.

No problem. Just wish it was as easy as asking her. The search continues.....

I am having difficulty in finding any other record for your grandmother other than the 2 mentioned.

You state your grandmother was a Dutch National, what was the country of her birth?

Hi. Daphne was born in Basel Switzerland. George Sander died in England around 1960, but had remarried by then.

Apologies, George Sander died around 1970 not 1960.

Thanks I'll try a different surname if I can find anyone in Tanzania to help me. None of their records are computerised so tracing a marriage without an exact date and place is difficult!

Thought

Divorce papers? George SANDER did not die until 1972 you think the marriage was circa 1952 -1958...as the obituary was in the Netherlands is this where the divorce was sorted?

George SANDERS left a will 1972
38 Heathcroft Hampstead Way NW11 died 31 May 1972 Probate 29 Sept est £10542 Interesting it does not state who applied for Probate

I understand that they were divorced in Tanzania and a court custody battle took place in dar es salaam over their daughter who does not remember the date of either the marriage or divorce- she was born in 1948.

Drawn a blank, I had thought familysearch.org may have a family history centre in Dar es Salaam but they haven't.

You could contact them to see what they have to offer if anything.

Checking the newspapers of the area could be a starting point
