My Grandfather was Robert Tayler STEEL, who married Theresa Florence Cutler on June 02, 1914, in Wandsworth, London. They were divorced before 1922. From then forward I can find no reference to Robert Tayler Steel.
His birth date was August 16, 1892, in Croydon (as shown on his birth certificate. His parents were William Lloyd Tayler STEEL and Florence Daisy Freeman BOND. They were married on November 01 1880 in Newington Surrey. According to the 1891 and 1901 they had 5 children (including Robert Tayler). In 1881 they were living in London in a lodging house.
You would think, with that information I would be able to find William Lloyd Tayler, (who was born in 1857) in the 1861 and 1871 census returns but I have searched all and unless he is going under a totally different name, he, or Florence does not exist.
In 1881 he was shown as Lloyd and living in Brixton, in 1891 he gives the name of William L. T and in 1901 he is back to Lloyd again. In 1891 and 1901 he was living in Surrey (Croydon). He gives his birth place as Deptford Kent (1901), Deptford Surrey (1891) and Reigate Surrey (1881).
His addresses have been in (Deptford) Kent and Surrey (Croydon).
Can some kind soul advise me where I should check next. This is my worse brick wall and I just cannot see a way around it.
