Crane's in Elm 1861/1871

Hi

Could anyone help me with 61 and 71 entries for John Crane. He would have been 21 in 1861 and possibly living with his Mother Ann age 45. Other siblings were Mary born 1838, William born 1846 and John G born 1849.
I think he married in 1863. In 1871 he should be living with his wife Sarah age 32 and daughter Emma age 1. Daughter Hannah Maria was also born around 1871.

John Crane m: Sarah Plummer, Mar qtr 1863, Wisbeach, Vol 3b Pg 823. From FreeBMD.

In 1861, Mary Crane (22) was married to Thomas White (27) and living in Elm, Cambridgeshire. Two of her brothers, William (18) and Eli (8), were living with them.

In 1861, John Crayne (sp.), age 20, b: Elm, Cambridgeshire was a lodger in Elm. He worked as an Agr. Labourer.

There is a death listed for Ann Crane in Mar qtr 1858 in Wisbeach, Vol 3b Pg 429. If this is she, it would explain why her 8-yr-old son Eli is living with his sister and her husband in 1861.

Hi Caf,

In 1861 census you are not going to get a lot of genealogical help I'm afraid except to tell you where he was. He was a lodger in the house of Abraham Read, a farm Bailiff and his family called 'Laddus'. John is as follows:-

You may have this already, but there was another son named Esau, listed in the 1841 census:

Esau was b: Mar qtr 1841, Wisbech, Vol 14 pg 179. This was when the birth was registered, so does not really conflict with him being 5 mos old at the time of the census.
Mary was b: Sep qtr 1837, Wisbech, Vol 14 pg 123.
William was b: Dec qtr 1842, Wisbech, Vol 14 pg 159.
No entry for John, but found a Robert, b: Mar qtr 1838, Wisbech, Vol 14 pg 137. Perhaps this is he, and the wrong name was transcribed in the index - it has happened in my family!
Esau d: Sep qtr 1847, Peterboro', Vol 15 pg 214. There was another Esau b: Peterborough in Dec qtr 1848, but no idea if to the same parents. There was also a John Crane b: Peterborough Mar qtr 1845, which would be about the time of John George's birth, but again, no idea if parentage is correct...

Perhaps sending for the certificates would help at this point...

Perhaps certificates would give age at death, and so give roughly year born...

Wife likely died in the previous 6 years, since the birth of youngest child, so may be named Elizabeth, Hannah, or Sarah as those deaths appear in the index for that time and place. Marriage would have been c. mid-1820's from age of oldest child.
