I am currently writing a history of the town of Gifhorn, Germany. After May 1945, there were 2 British Army commanders in Gifhorn. One was Colonel Britten and the other was Major Birt. Please can anyone confirm that it was George Vallette Britten of the Northamptonshire Regiment who was in charge, and has anyone information about Major Birt? I am translating and sending this information to the former mayor of the town, any information will be thankfully received.

Hello and welcome to the British-Genealogy forums :smile5:
The only reference coming up for me on a google search is This one (https://www.awm.gov.au/collection/PR01318/)for a Major Birt
Report written by Major Birt of the Salvation Army: "Gooenough Island, SWPA, RAAF" while attached to the 71 Wing, RAAF; photocopy of a sermon written by Birt; photocopy of a poem wirtten by a soldier of the 2/12 Field Ambulance.
