I have just found out that my Grandfather, Frederick Alex Chilvers, was transferred from the Essex Regiment, overseas in 1914-18, to Labour Corps probably 360 Company, around May/June 1918.
I would really appreciate any information on the military base, and particularly The Labour Corp, where it was based in Strensall and what it actually did. I know it was an interim place for soldiers not considered fit for active fighting duty, but maybe there are some sort of records, photos or stories of this time.
He was from Norfolk and his family was was living in London 1900 till his death in 1924.
