One site I swear by and use prior to any research is www.genuki.co.uk for any info in the British Isles. It is a treasure trove.

thank you for bringing genuki to the attention of members again. As you say it is an invaluable site and I have a shortcut to it on my desktop.
Another one I like when needing information on how to research in countries out of my normal range is Cyndi's list.
