Emma TRAVELL 1850-1860

I am looking for any information on the birth or christening of Emma TRAVELL in Birkenhead. I believe she was born in January 1850.

This follows her parents' marriage on 24 December 1846 at Birkenhead.

Some of my family moved from Buckinghamshire to Birkenhead for a brief period and I'd love to know what they were doing there!

What was the occupation of Emma's father? www.cheshirebmd.org.uk lists various marriages & births deaths of the Travell's in Birkenhead. Emma's birth is also listed on freeBMD, as is the death of her mother. I presume you already have the marriage certificate for John Travell & Emma Curtis. You can use these details to apply online for a copy of the birth certificate (& death certificate if you are feeling flush!) at www.gro.gov.uk
Wirral libraries now close Saurday afternoons, but I can have a look in the trade directories next week.

Thanks very much. According to the marriage certificate John was a farmer. However, according to his will he was a hay and straw dealer and had properties in Lord Street, Birkenhead, and also in Oliver Street. He appears to have been fairly wealthy and the family grave in Quainton in rather ostentatious for it's day.

Thanks very much. I have sent off for the birth certificate of Emma junior and the death certificate of Emma senior through the Birkenhead office. The FreeBMD page numbers were virtually illegible. All the additional information is a real bonus. I shall now start to follow that up. I'm sure that the Robert you mention was John's brother. I'm still trying to weigh up the connection between Quainton, Bucks and Birkenhead, Cheshire!
