Hi,

I would really appreciate help anyone can give in finding army records for William Mair. He was born in 1880 in Strichen Aberdeenshire, and joined the army in 1899. I think his roll no is 23200 in the RGA. I have an Army Form B 199a, which gives his record of service, in his own handwriting - does anyone know why would have had this rather than a records office?

I have attached the main page of the 199a detailing his posts and promotions. He retired in 1920 and his suitability to be recalled ceased in 1929.

I would really like to fully research the battles in which he may have been involved or mentioned - would this be possible.

Thanks so much for any advice you can give.

Hi

Being an officer his service records are not online, they are at National Archives - http://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk/SearchUI/Details?uri=C1078071
You need the reference number to ask for them to view them. Take a camera and photo them.
This is his medal index card - http://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk/SearchUI/Details?uri=D3901034
Also in colour and a picture of the back also on Ancestry.

regards

Robert
