I am visiting Winchester next week to look up some ancestral haunts.

Can anyone identify for me the exact location of the market building in use in Winchester in 1850? My ggg grandfather had the lease for a year and I have a copy from the excellent Hampshire records office (http://calm.hants.gov.uk).

The building is described as being the one used as a green, fish, poultry and butchers' market. There is also the adjoining piece of land in the square (I assume opposite the cathedral) known as the Butchers' Market and immediately under the building called the Mechanics' Institution.

I see online that there is a building called the Old Market being refurbished -- is that the one I am looking for?

Can anyone point me in the right direction for my stroll down memory lane??
