I have found my Great Grandfather Private Thomas Scott 23/1344 23rd /4th Battalion Tynside Scottish Northumberland Fusileers . He died 1st July 1916
I don't have any photographs of him, if any of my long lost relatives out there have any I would love to have a copy
Also can't find if he has a grave, even if it is unmarked which cemetery would it be in
He lived in Bedlington but the town memorial doesn't have his name on , I would like to pay my respects

if you go to the CWGC site he is on there and you will find he is on the THIEPVAL MEMORIAL

Thanks ,I've seen that ,I wonder which cemetery would be closet to where he fell, would it be Boiselle
I am thinking of contacting a news paper to find relatives we have lost touch with to see if I can find a photo of him

I think you may find he is one of the many brave men without a known grave this is mainly what the Thiepval Memorial is for

The Thiepval Memorial, the Memorial to the Missing of the Somme, bears the names of more than 72,000 officers and men of the United Kingdom and South African forces who died in the Somme sector before 20 March 1918 and have no known grave. Over 90% of those commemorated died between July and November 1916. The memorial also serves as an Anglo-French Battle Memorial in recognition of the joint nature of the 1916 offensive and a small cemetery containing equal numbers of Commonwealth and French graves lies at the foot of the memorial.

Thanks been to Theipval twice so I know what it's about but I think La Boiselle will be the nearest cemetery to where he was actually killed and would like to think he is one of the unknown graves
