I would like to give some family members a print out of the family tree.... there are 231 names so probably just the relevant names. My efforts are just not good enough to frame and give as a gift. Has anyone any tips re professional printing?

thank you

Sue

Yes, I have used a chap well known on this list I think. If I remember correctly his was Ron and he lived in the West midlands. I'm sorry but thats all I can recall. Regards Michael

Alternatively why not look for a locally based printer and talk to them about what they could do for you?

There are some small shops around here offer a service for the university students to bind their work. I think something like that would suffice. Try Google for your local area

Megan, I agree, I live in the West Midlands and Ron was local to me. I just can't remember his name and address.

best regards Michael

A specialist firm would be best. Google genealogy printers for some ideas (which coincidentally may just be the name of the firm that Michael couldn't recall).

(For Google please read "the search engine of your choice - preferably from a company who pay their taxes")

Hi Zen Rabbit... what did you give the printer?...a memory stick? When it comes to computer vocabulary I am hopeless so would really apprecicate a simple explanation if you please.

Sue, most printers I use for charity leaflets take pdf attachments to emails.

If it isn't too large I would email it as the simplest option but memory stick or cd would also work.
Ask the printer what format they want it in? For most things jpg is fine or pdf. Usually at 300 dpi (dots per inch).
What computer programme have you got your poster in?

if I remember correctly I just sent it as a Gedcom file as attachment to an email ,

Michael.

The company you are thinking of is Genealogy Printers. They do have a website and they are really good. The charts they use are very attractive and they can put photographs and stuff on for you.

Tell them I sent you

genealogyprinters.com

I have used them and I highly recommend them. I will also say that having met Ron and his lovely wife many times at the York Fair and when they have attended our Gwent FHS Open Day they are two of the most friendly people it has been my pleasure to meet.

Thank you very much for this link. Don't know why it didn't occur to me to look for printers specialising in genealogy!

I use a wifi printer which is very helpful to get prints from my mobile devices too.

Yes, but the OP was asking (2 years ago) for something better than he can get from his own printer - gift quality, in fact. That needs something better than a domestic printer.
