Hi
I have Michael Myers and Susan Myers on the 1881 census at 44 Hope Street York. There is also a Mary Ann Lawn living with them (sister of Susan).

Would someone mind looking them up on the other census. I am particularly interested in Susan and Mary.

Thanks
sue

Hi Sue

Was Michael married before to a Jane ? There is only one close to him on the 1871 census born in Mayo Ireland and he is married to a Jane and had children Catherine Maria and Thomas. He was living at 86 Walmgate ? Brewers Yard York- he was an innkeeper

And also a Susan Myers b1830 ireland on the 1891 living Yorkshire.

I don't have ancestry so cant take these any further

The Susan Myers you mention finding on the 1861 census was married to a Henry Myers

Does it look like Henry Myers and Michael could be the same person?

Thanks for looking

Hi Sue,
I think Tracey has put you on the right lines. In 1861 Michael Myers is aged 36 and a widower. His oldest child was born in Morpeth, Northumberland and the rest in York. You wanted to know about the Lawn sisters, Susan and Mary Ann. Michael did appear to marry Jane (Kenney?) before 1871 and A Jane Myers is reg dead December 1871 York age 43 (Slight variation with census age) Michael Myers marries Susan Loan ( LAWN surely?) June Quarter 1875 York. You already have them on 1881 census. The 1891 census gives:-
RG12/3893 Folio 21 Page 35 Walmgate York
Susan Myers, Head, Widow, 61, Provision Dealer, Ireland
Patrick Corcoran? Married, Boarder, 74 Born Ireland
Mary A. Corcaran, Married, Sister, 63 Born Ireland

Hope this helps, cheers, Jeremy.

Just shows how important it is to give all info. The 2 Boarders Tracey refers too in 1891 are Mary Ann (Lawn) and her husband! Cheers Jeremy

Hello Jeeb

If you are going to correct me and tell Sue how important it is to give all information its best to get it right ;)

this is from your last mail.....................

I am sorry Tracey, if you have taken offence at my remarks but those are the same two boarders I was referring to. The reason 'Lawn' is in the brackets is so that Sue would realise it was Mary Ann's maiden name, the family she is researching. The important bit here is the fact it said Mary Ann was Susan's sister and I'm sorry if you think I am out to argue with you but that bit was definately readable. No offence meant to you or anyone else, I was just stating a fact of how easy it is to leave out important information if the researcher does not give all that is written down.
Cheers Jeremy.

Hi Jeremy

Sorry , its a shame there isnt a version of smelly vision for email so that the person knows how you are saying it as smilies sometimes dont do the job. Your right but i didnt look up the marriage only the census. I was going to send Sue the copy as i have done before but was distracted. I couldnt read the name properly on my copy of the census and Sue didnt ask who the boarders were. So HUGE appologies to you and no offence taken or meant.

But on the good side - with Mary Ann getting married at such a late age there is hope yet , only 20 odd more years to go (or wait !) !!

Tracey

Hi Tracey and Jeremy

Thanks very much for the look ups.
The Lawns are a very difficult bunch to sort.
They were originally from Ire and travelled around UK before settling in York.
They have also been recorded as Long.
So everytime I try to find anything I search Long and Lawn, and now it looks like I have another option - Loan!

I am currently trying to find out whether a marriage in Leeds 1849 between Edward Lawn and Ann Dawson is in fact Edward and ann Dennon! I think Ed was a brother of Mary and Susan!

Thanks
Sue

But doing a "Soundex" on the name brings back 16 results for a Edward only two of which are in Yorkshire

Hi Tracey

Yes, I have Edward & Ann at School St Navigation Road in 61,71,81. I think he married Ann in Leeds in 1849, but I need to get the certificate.
He then had Edward in Liverpool c1850, William c1851 Warwicks and Alexander 1854 in Gloucester. I then have him on the 1861 in York (as mentioned above).
Many people have searched for them on the 1851, in Worcs, Shrops, Warks, Glos, Wilts, but have had no luck.
Cheers

Sue
