Some volunteers are working at Owestry (Shropshire) library indexing old papers in the library's collection. The papers are the Merionethshire Standard (1865, 1866 & 1868), Merionethshire Herald (1863) and Cambrian News (1870). I'm not sure if the years are the start dates for the papers but I was given a link to a date in 1876 for the Cambrian News. http://www.

Some of the places mentioned in the 1876 entry are Aberystwyth, Great Gonerby (Lincs), Chester, Llanuwchyllyn, Drwsnant, Cloddiau, Llanbyther, Bala, Lampeter and Manchester. (With it being the Cambrian News, there is a strong emphasis on Wales.)
It is a case of 'enter a name and hope for the best', but you could strike gold. :smile5: And there's a link to the entry in the paper.
I think it's an on-going project so it's worth checking back every couple of months.
