I live in Australia and have been researching my, and other, family histories since 1983. Before the advent of the wealth of information on the net, and also since, I have carried out my research with the aid of the Mormon Church Libraries and visits to the UK, about every two years or more, over a period of 20 years. In spite of all the time given to my research I am unable to find information about my 2xgt grandfather THOMAS PUGH other than that he married JANE PROSSER in Llandeilo Graban RAD 22 Nov 1830. They baptised their son, THOMAS (my gt grandfather), on 28 Nov 1830. Then all three dissappear from the records until son THOMAS marries MARY LEWIS in St Peters Glasbury BRE 30 Aug 1853. From then on THOMAS and MARY appear in each census and I have BMDs etc for all the families. I have no idea what happened to THOMAS and JANE or where THOMAS Snr came from. Any ideas anyone? Please.

Thomas son of Thomas & Mary pops up again in the same place in 1851
There are various other Thomas Pughs who appear as servants etc but none that I can see give their birthplace as Llandilo though a few give Radnorshire

Hi
I should have mentioned that I have thoroughly researched the PUGHs of Llandeilo Graban and have established that my THOMAS was not a member of that large family. I have wills, parish records, census data, etc to back up my findings. When my THOMAS married the record states that he was of St David's Parish. This, of course, covers a wide area. I have extracted PUGHs from Parish records and census data over a wide area. I have used Findmypast website to try to find a death for THOMAS and JANE but cannot find any which fit. I have really hit a very high brick wall here. Some years ago a professional researcher claimed that THOMAS was a son of HENRY PUGH of Penwern, Llandeilo Graban born 1802. I have establised that this THOMAS married an ESTHER and their first son? was born in Crickadarn in 1826. Every avenue I have explored has had a dead end. Thank you for your try at helping me.

Have you ruled this out:

1841 Wales census: 1370 f11 p16
Glasbury.

Thomas Pugh 1801 shepherd
Jane 1806
Sarah 1821
Thomas 1831
John 1833
Eliza 1835
David 1837
Ann 1839
Emma 5 months
All born in the county.

1851 census: 2491 f341 p6
Cusop, Herefordshire

Thomas Pugh 1801 Wid Glasbury, Radnor. lab
son Thomas 1829 Hay, Brecon. lab
son: John 1832 Hay. lab
son: David 1837 Hay. lab
dau: Emma 1839 Hay.

Glasbury is in St David's parish.

Possible bap: Thomas Pugh bap 21 June 1807 Glasbury, son of Thomas Pugh and Mary.
Maybe a bit early: Thomas Pugh bap 28 May 1792 Glasbury, son of Thomas Pugh and Catherine.

Rebecca.

Hi Rebecca
Thank you for your reply. Yes, I have ruled out Thomas and Jane in Glasbury. She was JANE BEAVAN - from the birth cert of daughter Emma. The two baptisms of THOMAS in Glasbury are possibles but I have no way of determing if either is the one I want. If only THOMAS and/or JANE appeared on the 1951 census my problem would be solved!

If you have the marriage cert of Thomas to Mary Lewis, 1853, what was Thomas Snr's occupation - if stated? You state the only thing you know about him was that he married a Jane Prosser, Llandeilo Graban.

Hi
THOMAS senior was a labourer so that isn't any help. THOMAS junior was a shoemaker which should have been helpful but isn't! I found a THOMAS PUGH, shoemaker, in the 1851 census in Shropshire. But he was born in that county and is there in 1861 as a labourer. Every turn leads to a dead end. HELP!! Sorry I know you are all helping.
