Two problems:

Firstly
I think that his occupation was "mariner", what do others think?

Secondly
Was his occupation "upholder" or "upholsterer" and if the former what was that?

As for 'upholder' (which is how I read the second one), the OED gives 3 options:

1. " A dealer in small wares or second-hand articles (of clothing, furniture, etc.); a maker or repairer of such things"
2. An upholsterer
3. An undertaker

Your choice!

The first one is definitely Mar(ine)r - I have found several of my lot recently with that shortening.

I agree that the first one is a Mariner.
This site mentions and Upholder which is what the second one definitely looks like.
