M.S. on birth certificate

Hi, I'm looking at a Scottish birth certificate and after the married name of the mother it says M.S. Lawrie. Does this mean nee? Thanks for your help.

Yes, it's Maiden Surname, or that's how I read them.

I was born in Scotland. I have just looked at my birth certificate and the letters M.S. are followed by my mother's maiden surname. I'd never noticed that before so thank you for pointing it out.
