From the on line IGI William Jones was christened at English Bicknor on 10th July 1825.
Also John Jones married Hannah Hughes at English Bicknor on 20 Jan 1817.
Did you mean born Gloucester, or Gloucestershire?

Andrew

Thank you very much Andrew for the information. I have just started researching English relatives and do not know the differance between Gloucester and Gloucestershire?
Best wishes

Gloucester is a town. Gloucestershire is a county - or equivalent of a state for us Aussies.

And in case you hadn't guessed Gloucester is in Gloucestershire.

If you have a look at this link and work your way through you will probably find more than you ever needed (or perhaps wanted) to know:

I have an Ordnance Survey Superscale Atlas which I got from Goulds Genealogy which I find to be handy though it is modern.

If you do a search on the web you may be able to find a facsimile copy of the Pigot & co British Atlas of Counties of England for 1840 which is also handy.

Obviously there are a large range of maps and I am sure others on this forum have their personal favourites.

If you prefer a CD version have a look at: Parish Chest (http://www.parishchest.com/en-gb/dept_2949.html) for a large range including gazeteers.

I have moved the computer into the corner so that I can stand there as I key.

Hi Aussie Daphne, :)

Whilst checking the baptism for William baptised 10 July 1825, it notes that his Father John is a Carpenter. I checked for any other Jones births with the combination of John and Hannah as parents and the occupation of carpenter and I found :

Ann 20 March 1818
Lucy Davies 30 January 1820 (Davies could be Hannah's surname)
Mahala 5 September 1821
James 2 December 1822
John 17 August 1823

All resident of English Bicknor, baptism's at St. Mary's

Regards

Dee
