hi All,
I know I am ever so picky when it comes to grammar. So after reading something the other day when someone had written "I should of" instead of "I should have" I found this from an 8th Grade Exam in Salina, Kansas in 1895. Remember these kids would have (of) been around 15 years of age
Grammar (Time: one hour)
1. Give nine rules for the use of capital letters
2. Name the parts of speech and define those that have no modifications
3. Define verse, stanza and paragraph
4.
what are the principal parts of a verb? Give pricipal parts of 'lie' 'play' and 'run'
5. Define case, illustrate each case
6. What is pronunciation? Give rules for principal marks of pronunciation
7.-10 Write a composition of about 150 words and show therein that you understand the practical use of the rules of grammar
Other questions from the Orthology section (Do we even know what that is?)
What are elementary sounds?
What are the following and give examples of each: trigraph, subvocals, dipthong, cognate letters, linguals
And so it goes on!!!!!
I would have a definate fail but then so would my friend, should of, would of, could of
