This lady is my grandmother, She was unmarried when my dad was born in 1919. During the war she was a Munitions worker and she returned to her parents afterwards as was with her parents at the time of my dad's birth. She was 'forced' by her parents to allow them to raise the child and by 1920 at the age of 22 she had moved away.

In 1927 she married and I have the certificate on order which will indicate her residence at that time. I have the Electoral Records from after her marriage, but nothing prior to that.

I have her parents at 42 Villiers Road, Willesden but she is not on list, however her unmarried brother is.

I have my doubts as to whether she left the area, so I suspect she was in lodgings somewhere nearby. Any suggestions appreciated

Colin

The Representation of the People (Equal Franchise) Act 1928 meant that women had to be over 21 years old, regardless of property ownership in order to have the right to vote. Prior to this act only women over 30 who met minimum property qualifications could vote.

Therefore, Florence Priscilla Rowledge will not be shown on any electoral registers between 1920 and 27.

That explains why I could only find her from 1929 onwards.

She and her husband in 1929 and 1930 were living in Englands Lane, Hampstead - later it was in Hammersmith according to the Rolls - @ 42. My dad remebered several visits he made to them, however he was always known as her 'kid brother'. Florence and her parents were in disagreements over the visiting, so in order to keep in contact she and her husband moved next door to her 2 married brothers on Fleetwood Road, Willesden in the 1930's and where still there in 1933. The visits by this time were becoming quite stressful to Florence, so she and her husnand moved to Hendon in 1934.

This I think will eliminate me finding her prior to her marriage.

Colin, please could you tell us exactly which years you are looking for Florence in?

I believe you have her birth 1898 and baptism. Her census for 1901 and 1911. You have her in 1919 and 1927 and onwards.

As Jan says, she will not be on the electoral registers between 1920 and 1927.

When you say "nothing prior to that" do you just mean 1920 to 1927?
