I have a 57-year-old man, a merchant who seems to have been on a business trip at the time, where cause of death is listed as what looks to me like "Nusmic convulsions". I can't find anything that might tell me what that is! Can anyone help, please?

Thanks in advance

I know it looks as if the phrase starts with an N, but the only thing that makes sense to me is something like 'Uremic convulsions'

Perhaps you could you post a larger section of the certificate so that we can view more of the handwriting

I'm with you on this olliecat:

Uremia: A poisoned condition of the blood due to defective elimination of the elements of urine in consequence of impairment of the functional capability of the kidneys, or by their resorption in cases of retention of urine; characterized by stupor and, especially in lying-in women, by convulsions. [Appleton1904].

As requested, here's a copy of the whole registration.

I think you are absolutely right, you two! And it makes sense -- middle-aged men often have problems with kidneys.
