I am trying to trace the background my great grand mother Mary Morrissey who was born in County Loise.
A birth certificate for her second son shows her being born in Stradbally in 1864, but there seems to be some
doubt of that.
Thanks

Thanks for that. The birth certificate of her second son born in Brisbane Australia is dated 20/9/1887. Her marriage date is shown
as12/2/1885 in Brisbane, and her age is shown as 23. Since the informant of the birth was her husband, one would assume he
knew he knew his wifes true age. On the basis of that evidence The Mary Morrisy of 1863 would have to be her. I will have to see
her marriage certificate .

Statutory birth registration only began in Ireland in 1864 so for births before that, such as the 1863, the church record will be the only record you'll find. Not all parish records in Ireland are on-line, and some have been lost, so there could be other Morrisy births that are not on any pay to view site. That's why it's very helpful to find corroboration of her place of birth from some other source if you can.
