Hi
I am new to this group, and am trying to find my relative and info on his war years I think around the South African time.
Elliott, Henry Herbert born 1867 Sheffield, Yks, Eng.
The only info I have is that he name one of his children Hector MacDonald Elliott after Hector MacDonald who served until 1903.
He was a KOYLI and apparently with this he went to India. He retired to the Batley Retirement Village, Wakefield Yorkshire.
I am confused as to when he served, and which regiment in the army he might have been in.
I have hunted the net quite thoroughly but cannot confirm anything about him. I would truly appreciate someone who could point men in the right direction to find out any info on him.
Kindest regards
Gwen Nadin

You might browse through some of the threads on this forum, in particular:

http://www.british-genealogy.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1812

which may help to point you in the direction of finding service records.
Also The National Archives (TNA) at Kew has a web-site which contains many research guides
http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/research/guides.htm?source=ddmenu_research7
scroll down to the letter 'B' and look through some of those for 'British Army'.
