Hi all,
I'm seeking assistance to find where John Payne was born. His Australian death cert. states he was born Durham (no specifics), that he died 1873, aged 73. He married an Isabella Pinder some time prior to marrying Anne Bonnitts/Bonets in 1830 (according to his death cert) or 1832 (according to hers.

In 1846 the family lived at 4 Peru Street Greengate Salford (daughter Elizabeth's birth cert) and in 1851 lived at 1 Rosamund Street same area. John was listed as a tailor.

I've searched the internet sites I know of, such as the IGI, but can't find any records for birth or marriages.

Any assistance/advice much appreciated.

Sue

So what are the ages and birthplaces shown in the 1851 census, including children? What does the birth certificate say the mother's maiden name was?

In 1851, John was 49, Anne was 37, Ellen was 15, Edmund 14, John A 12, Henry 10, Anne 7, Elizabeth Isabella 4, Alfred 2. The census states Durham Birk as John's birthplace, Ann as born Scotland, Ellen as Cumberland Carlisle, Edmund as Cumberland Whitehaven, the rest were Lancaster Salford. John's father was William, described as a barrister, and his mother was Elizabeth, last name unknown. This means John could have been born netween 1800 and 1802 roughly. Have searched the IGI for the parents as well as John but no luck. The family emigrated in 1855 on the Flora MacDonald. Are there clues here as to how I'd find more about John? I'd appreciate any suggestions.
