Hi
Could someone please look up the 1861 census for William Powney aged 50, wife Hannah aged 51 and children John aged 24. Lydia aged 22. Sarah aged 18. Phoebe aged 16. William aged 13 and possibly David aged 18 mths.
They are on the 1851 as living in Jones Lane. Sedgley. Lower Gornal but there is no trace of anyone except when son John and wife Emma turn up in Broughton in 1901. Their son John Henry born Norton Canes is then in manchester with wife Lily and 2nd son of John and Emma Arthur Lewis born Burton on Trent.
Anyone help please
Pam

Can you give any further information to help with the search. Do you know any places of birth?

I searched for William without any success.I guessed that he had been transcribed under another name, but a search just using his forename, dob and birthplace produced zilch.I tried the same approach with Sarah and got what looks like a hit with a family transcribed as PAUNTNEY (I thought it was POUNTNEY).

RG 9 2048 folio 35 sch 25
Dibdale(?)
Hannah POUNTNEY..H..Wid..52..Sedgley
Sarah..D..18..Brickmaker..Sedgley
Phebe(sic)..D..15..Brickmaker..Sedgley
William..S..13..Stone Getter..Sedgley
David..S..8..Stone Getter..Sedgley

David's age is clearly marked.

Hi UK.
You are brilliant. Even though my surname gets spelled and pronounced differently lt never entered my head to try it for Williams family (senior moment!!)
Thankyou so much for your help.

Hi again UK
You wouldn't happen to have any idea where Dibdale is or was. l can't find it in my road book or online. There is a Dibdale Road in Dudley! l wonder if it led to Dibdale at some stage.
l can't even think of an alternative.
Any ideas anyone

Hi again
l've found Dibdale on a advert for a 1901 ordnance survey map which covers
Ruiton.Upper and Lower Gornal.Five Ways.Graveyard (Grosvenor Road) Dibdale.Oldpark.Shavers End and Wrens Nest.
Hope some of these come in handy.
