James McComish (1788-1848)
On 20 Nov 1848, the ship Mariane sailed from Belfast arrived in New York . There were 281 passengers on board the ship , ten of whom died at sea. The following family sailed in steerage:
James McCormick, age 60, farmer, James is listed as "died at sea"
Rosey McCormick, age 58, wife
Edward McCormick, age 26, son
Because ship’s records, especially those of the age of passengers, were not known for their accuracy, we can only approximate James’ year of birth as 1878. We assume that James was buried at sea. His wife and son traveled on to Wisconsin to live with another son, Thomas, who had established himself there earlier.

Thomas J. McComish b. Sept 1816 in Ireland
Edward McComish b. 5 Sept 1819 in Ireland
Arthur McComish b. about 1822 in Ireland
