I am trying to trace my GGrandparents back to Ireland and I seem to be stuck...
William and Catherine were married at St Mary and All Saints Ecclesiastical Church, Chesterfield Derbyshire on 10/2/1865 (I have a copy of their marriage certificate). At the time of their marriage they were both living at Sheffield Road, Chesterfield.
William Coyne, born between 1834 and 1842 in Galway Ireland, died in Chesterfield, Derbyshire December 1897. His father was Michael Coyne, Cordwainer. Michael Coyne was deceased at the time of this marriage (as specified on marriage certificate).
Catherine Casey, born abt 1840 in Galway, Ireland, died in Chesterfield Derbyshire, September 1906. Her father was Michael Casey, Farm Labourer.
The witnesses noted on this marriage certificate were Patrick Casey (who may have been Catherine's brother) and Margaret Cain.
William and Catherine are not listed on the UK 1861 census so I am assuming that they were living in Ireland at this time.
The UK 1871 census lists William and Catherine, their children Bridget Coyne 4 and John Coyne 2. There are also 3 lodgers : Michael Diskin 25, Augustin Grehan 26 and Patrick Grehan 25. They were still living in Chesterfield.
Can anyone advise me on how to try and trace them both back to Ireland? I have tried searching records myself but to no avail.
Thank you in anticipation.
