Surviving admission & discharge registers appear to be 1845-71; 1902-24; 1928-30.

Documents are at the London Metropolitan Archives.

When and where did he die? It might have a bearing on why he was in the workhouse.

i dont know when and where he died .
in 1901 he was in workhouse aged 70,
on 1881 census he is 52, it is same person ,
i just wondered why he would have been in there poor chap.

but no i cant find a death for him.

Well, just in case it's some use to you I'll throw in that the workhouse death regs have survived for 1860-1931. This is the Poplar High Street workhouse which I assume is what you're talking about.

If you cannot find these registers try to see if the Creed Registers have survived. They will tell you when he was admitted and when he was discharged or the date of his death.

uksearch has made a good point there. The creed registers do indeed appear to be available covering 1844-1940. They are all at the LMA.
