After reading some of these threads, I looked at the Probate Calendar, and found my gg-grandparents! But now what do I do? I'm in the US and can't make a quick trip! The 2 wills I need are for:

John Ward registered 12 Feb 1876 (died 25 Jan 1876) in Middlesex by Robert Hammond
Mary Ann Ward registered 22 Nov 1890 (died 7 Oct 1890) in Middlesex by Emma Bragg

How do I find out how much to send in a check? Can I email for an amount, and then send a check for the correct amount? I've paid for things in England with my CC, but never sent a check!

Help!!
Kathy

They Probate Registry state on their application form (http://www.hmcourts-service.gov.uk/courtfinder/forms/pa1s_0405.pdf) that fees from abroad should be paid by...

"International Money Order, cheque or draft, payable through a United Kingdom bank, and must be made out in £ sterling."

If you can't write a cheque in £ sterling, would an International Money Order be an alternative possibility for you?

I couldn't see the download link on their website. Have I missed it somewhere?

The form is on the page you posted a link for earlier, but it is easy to miss. It's down toward the bottom of the page (http://www.hmcourts-service.gov.uk/cms/1226.htm#011) under the paragraph "What does it cost? "

A few years ago I needed to apply for a birth certificate from Singapore and only payment in $ Singapore was acceptable to them. My bank in the UK ripped me off £30 commission to do an IMO

£30 commission - gulp!!!!! :yikes:

I read that one used to be able to obtain International Money Order's through the US post office. Don't know if you still can. Hopfully Kathy can avoid such a commision.
