Edward Lawn from Ireland was a currier, he appears to have travelled around england before settling in York.
What was a currier, would it involve travelling?

the description in volume one of "The Book of Trades or the Library of Useful Arts" begins:-

The business of the currier is to prepare hides, which have been under the hands of the tanner, for the use of shoemakers, coachmakers, saddlers, bookbinders etc.

It then goes on to describe in detail the process of currying leather to put it into a suitable condition for the various trades to use.
