I have seen references on this forum and elsewhere to Custodian, which seems to come highly recommended. However, I'm still not really sure what the software does. I get the impression it's not just gedcom based software like Legacy or PAF (which are the two programs I have at the moment), but has other functions.

Could someone please tell me what Custodian does differently to e.g. Legacy, and whether it would be useful to acquire the program in addition to my current software?

Many thanks!

Custodian is not a family tree program. It's a database system for storing and organising raw genealogical data. There are different templates for say BMD certificates, parish register entries and census data. People running one name studies find it particularly useful.

Unfortunately it only runs on Windows. I think it's fairly expensive for what it is but that's subjective.

You can download a trial copy free of charge.

Thanks Peter!

It sounds like it could be useful. I didn't know there was a trial version - I'll take a look.
