View Full Version : Joseph Horton census look up

10-06-2005, 7:27 AM
I was wondering if anyone could look up Joseph Horton born 1858 ? the Dewsbury area father is Benjamin Horton. I have some census information on Joseph Horton marrying Jane T Walies but I was after some information on Joseph's siblings looking through the information I have already he may have been an only child. I have been looking for a brother Thomas who may have been older and not living with the family at the time of the 71 census.
Thank you for your help
Patricia

Thank you again Procat you have been a great help with the information you have been finding for me.. Thomas Horton is a very shy person or he could be from a totally different family. I wonder if he may be Benjamin's brother Joseph's Father??? Are there any census further back than 1861 for West Riding area??? So many questions.
Thank you again
Patricia

Hi Patricia,

Unfortunately Ancestry has not yet indexed the 1851 or 1841 census. I suspect the 1851 is not too far off however.

I note also that Archive CD Books is yet to produce the 1841 for Yorkshire though they do have some for 1851 in the West Riding.

Doug.

Hi Patricia,

I have had a look for Thomas Horton in the 1871.

I can find none born Batley - making a rash assumption he would be born in the same place as his brother Joseph. Ignoring that I can find no children born in Yorkshire that are not with their parents.

If we move on to the possibility of his being a brother to Benjamin there are some likely looking customers:

Thomas Horton Born Kirkheaton 1805 Head married to Jane Horton child Catherine Born 1849.

Thomas Horton Born Kirkheaton 1809 Head married to Mary Horton Son William Hallas and grandson Thornton Hallas

Thomas Horton Born Kirkheaton 1823 Head married to Ann Horton with Annetts Horton B1866, George Horton B1860, Henry Horton B1855, James Horton B1858, Jane Horton B1864, Lewis Horton B1862 and Mary Ellen Horton B1870.

If you think any of these may be worth a look let me know and I can transcribe the details.

Hi Procat,
Thanks again for the information. Would you mind transcribing the data on Thomas Horton born 1823 and his family please. I will have a look and see were this leads me. Benjamin was born in Kirkheaton so there may be a connection. I have been trying to link all the Hortons from the Kirkheaton area and I tell you their are thousands of them. There has to be a link somewhere in the line even if I have to go back even further. I have gone back to a Joseph Horton born around 1750 who married a Grace ? or .... I have two of them and I am trying to find which is the right one for our family. You would not believe the trouble I have had in finding this family over the last 13 years and in Oct last year I had a break through and that was all I needed and with the help from you forum as well it has made a big difference. I have been able to go back another 5 generations because I was stuck on my great grandmother. Its been fantastic.
Thanks again
Patricia
