Looking for a record for William Russell b; Ireland apporx 1813 but emigrated to Scotland in 1849. He lived in Stonefield BLANTYRE lanarkshire Scotland and worked as a platelayer. He is on the 1871 Scottish census and then I can find no trace of him. Does anyone have any ideas as to where I would look for the railway records?

Hi there and welcome

I'd be surprised if there were records kept of plate layers at that time. However the National Archives of Scotland do hold some railway records which include some staff records. http://www.nas.gov.uk/guides/railway.asp

Do you have any further information about William to help trace him?

Thanks. Yes I have found him on all census up to the 1871 one. Can't find him after that. I know he died between 1871 and 1881, but am unable to find any record of him at all.

Thanks. I have come to a complete dead end. He was on the 1871 census but is not on the 1881 census. I cannot find any death record for him at all. There are a couple of William Russell's death during this period but things just dont'add up so I don't think they relate to my william Russell. Thanks for the link, I have been looking but can't find him on any railway sites either. Oh well, I just keep on plodding along.
