I have found a record of my GGrandfather, his mother and brother in Poorlaw records for Hawkesbury, Gloucestershire which showed they were removed from Hunslet,Leeds. The dates given are 1829 for my GGGrandmother and her two boys 1830. Can anyone tell me how or where I can find out the reason for their being returned to Gloucestershire.
Thanks
Delyn

They hadn't established any right of settlement in Hunslet so they were sent back where they came from so that Hawkesbury could pick up the tab.

What you need are these books on CD:

The Justice of the Peace and Parish Officer - 1800

The laws of the time and how they applied to our ancestors. Absolutely fascinating in all respects! Apprentices, bastardy, rights of settlement, transportation, vagrancy, servants, etc. - every possible subject and in great detail, organised in alphabetical order by subject. This is without doubt one of the most useful set of books that we have ever published on CD

see: http://www.rod-neep.co.uk/acatalog/eng-misc.html
for this and the other books for 1869 and 1772

I have to agree with Rod on this one.

I have the CD and it is fascinating - the only problem is it is so huge it would take days to work through the whole thing in its entirety.
